BLK Cancer block

BLK Cancer block

I thought i'd post this pic before I get it out in the mail! It's a block that is being contributed to the breast cancer quilt project that Kate is heading up! I have another one in process, but am not sure i'm going to make it in time with it! this one looks much more yellow that it actually is. I don't know what I did to the settings. Anyway...its a black cq pieced block that I used gold rayon embroidery thread on. I did a bit of thread painting with the moth and added in the spider and some flowers around the dragonfly. There are a ton of beads as well to give it a bit of a lift. Still need to work on Sharons lessons....I think I flunked the one that helps the eye travel around the block! Mine gets stuck with the moth and buttons!!!! oh well....theres always another block and hopefully this one will work alright for the big quilt.

More signs of spring!

Here are some more of our little crocus! These ones are soooo small! They make me smile at how bravely they face the world when they pop up! I thought that I had lost them as they didn't blossom last year. Must have just been resting and waiting for a time when they knew I needed to see them in all their glory and feel regenerated! Enjoy!!

This is one of the little gems that have proudly survived the latest snow storm and poked it head out in tribute to spring! I loove crocus and tulips! I think they are my all time favorite flowers! Why???? Not quite sure. I enjoy spring and seeing nature itself...the finches return to our spruces and the homes they repair there and on and on.... I think i'll try to re-create some of these gems in thread. They would be a nice addition to a block I think!

This is the first pic of the buttonhole stitch. I've now reached approximately 24" on this one and am beginning to get a bit concerned if i'll reach the end!! Again...it really helps to see a full row of each variation off a block with all of its added distractions.

Straight stitch sampler

I haven't posted in a bit, so I thought I better show a little bit of what i've been up to!

I am taking Sharon Boggon's class...which is WONDERFUL....and she suggests making a sampler of each stitch and its variations. Soooo, here is the beginning of my straight stitch sampler! Long way to go, has a bunch of imperfections, but it really helps to be able to see a whole row of the stitches in another place besides a block! I actually have been struggling a bit with working on the Aida cloth...i'm used to regular fabric now for my stitching, but I thought this would be a good way for me to practice. Just need to work out those leaves now! ;-)

Art Bra

Thought I would do a little follow up on my previous posting on art bras!

This is the one I made for a contest sponsored by The Great American Quilt Factory in Denver. This contest was inspired by A Way to Women's Wellness" Art Bra Calendar. An organization created to raise funds for breast cancer research! There were a bunch of great entries; including two of some local cq'ers in the Rocky Mountain Crazy Quilters group. Holly created "Peacock Dreams" and Tammy created "Midnight At the Oasis". They can be seen here. http://www.greatamericanquilt.com/BraChallenge.htm (Someday I will learn how to do this linking correctly....)

Mine is named, "Oceans Blue Mystery". To my surprise, I won first place!! WOW!!! I'm sooooo excited! And....I feel a bit more confident and comfortable now in entering my work in things. This bra was a lot of fun to create..a lot of work too, but worth it! Taught me to start as early as possible on a project and to keep trying to steadily work on the project a bit everyday to complete it! A good lesson for me! :_) Cancer seems to run in my family. My mother has/had breast cancer and my daughter has been battling with cervical cancer. I am planning to figure out how to place something on ebay for sale and the proceeds will go to cancer research. I've realized that I can do little things like this and maybe it will help along the road. Hmmmm.....wonder if I could embellish a pair of panties...as a group of cq'ers are going to do at the annual conference in Omaha and auction them too!??!?? Might just have to make a matching set! LOL!!! Anywhoo, enjoy!

Congratulations to everyone that participated in this contest!! The creations were wonderful!

This is one of the "hidden" symblos in the Day Dreamer quilt. Both dh and I love wolves, as do many folks, but this particular one has a meaning. It is howling with the winds of freedom just as.........:__) You'll have to wait and see!! :_P

Welllll, I gave it the ol "college try" but no cigar. This wall hanging is for a competition in a group I belong to, the fairiegoddessmothers.com. Anywhoo....1:30 this morning I gave in. Ahhh well. At least i'm somewhat close. Need to finish up the handwork...aka grasses, flowers and leaves; add the fairies wings...an eagle in the sky and some more hidden symbols. Then...the border and quilting. Welll...maybe not so close after all. :_P This fairy is day dreaming of the west the way it was. When mustangs ran free, the plains grasses grew long and the mountains were pristine and untouched. I must be in a symbolic and serious mode these days...cuz everything I do HAS to mean something to me! My "inner self" must be looking for something! ;-) Enjoy! Have fun looking! I'll post when I get the main part of this completed.

It's been awhile (again) since I posted. Sheesh, where does the time go?

This is a postcard I did for the American Quilt Society auction. Any funds received will go towards the museum and purchase of quilts, etc. Sooo....a great cause! I wish I was quicker in my stitching...i'd do a few more for them, but the pc's need to be in Kentucky by the first of March!

This is of a little fairie tending to her butterfly of an evening. She is carrying her little lantern that I beaded to create a glowing effect. I added metallic french knots to the top of the tulip and beads to the front lip of the tulip. Also beaded the stem as it wasn't showing up well. Added some little glass flowers and a metallic french knot dragonfly in the top left corner...which isn't terribly visible. The whole card is hand quilted...to my limited abilities in that department. Then the final touch of the eye lash yarn around the edge.
Also under the flower beads I did some feather stitching and fly stitching to create a sort of "fern" effect.

I just had to post a pic of my "guy"! He is one of fur kids that I LOVE to death! It's not really a super duper pic....and I tried a LOT of shots...but you can see he's snuggling up with a little stuffed cow I have. He's been notorious for this with teddies too! To the extent that he and his partner in crime decorated our backyard with a bunch of them when they were little! Anyway...he's been pretty good til now! :_) Wonder what else he's plotting!?!?!? :_O

OCB bra back

My computer was giving me SUCH a hassle last night, I gave up for the day! Soooo....here we are....a bright, sunny, slightly breezy but gorgeous day in Colorado. Renewed hope that I can post this with minimal difficulties! LOL!!

The back of the bra is primarily beaded. I personally LOVE the google eyed fish on the right. They just add a little bit of my humor I guess. The straps of the bra were done with a feather stitch and beaded to help pull it all together with the beads cascading down from them to blend with the se life. I finally found some fringe for the bottom that helped pull the whole thing together. It was an interesting process to create this. I didn't know from minute to minute quite what I was going to do next....and found I didn't want to ! Planning cq just hasn't worked for me as well as flying by the seat of my pants so to speak! LOL!!! Anyway, the closure was entirely covered with the lining, which is velvet. I then applied snaps on the inside and on the outside added two clamshell beads with the smaller beads to continue the illusion of the deep sea.

Guess i've babbled enough. Off to get a few things done! Like figuring out how to blog links that I seem to be hopeless at!

I haven't posted in a bit and thought I better get something up! Goodness!

This is a pic of the completed front of the ArtBra I completed for a local challenge being held at a quilt store in Denver. I called it Oceans Blue Mystery. It has tons of beading on it and lots of little surprises. It took a little bit to complete but it was a good experience! Hopefully you can see a bit of the work that was done...like the ruched ribbon, the chain stitch seaweed, the BE lobster and fish, to name a few!

JanFG

Yeahhhh!!!! I finished her!!! This teensy project took forever cuz she kept talking to me! :_) Meet Hecca!!! This is my version of the fairie goddess for January. Backed by the frosty mountains, she is "in" the forest....surrounded by snow covered trees. For me, she represents the goddess of life. She is giving energy and life to the frozen ground, nurturing it in her belly and releasing it to the moon sky above. She is typically attended by three dogs...but I have four, so the four paws are for my furkids. I have surrounded her wings with "ice" which is melting as it comes closer to her life center. I have also placed a couple of charms that are significant to me in that the howling wolf depicts my husbands spirit and the bear depicts mine. She will help me to maintain my focus and
assist me in my journey towards being more centered and
balanced! At least thats my intent. A new year and new
life! :_)

I truly hope the remaining months of the fairie goddess are not quite as demanding and will be content with a more simple presentation! :_)

Enjoy!!!

Last but not least is my January goddess for the FairieGoddessMothers group! Right now it doesn't show at all, but the background is cq...but that will show better once it's embellished. I'm also planning on beading the wings....sooo, it's probly gonna be a bit longer before she's done. Sigh.... hopefully before I have to start on February! LOL!!!

This is a cq project...a bra that i'm working on for a challenge. Thank goodness the deadline is extended. The beading has taken me longer than expected!!! I will post again when I get it finished. Been fun. I'll have to figure out how to get better pics of the detail without the reflections. This is called Ocean's Blue...and has a brazilian embroidered lobster, glass fish, silk riggon sea weed, and a variety of other ocean life so far. Hopefully it will do well and not look silly. Its been a great expression tho...I have to admit!

This pic is just for fun. I've been working on a bra for a challenge and our "new" boarder, DH's step father, has been giving me a hard time about it. Sooooo...i've told him he will get to model it! Course, its not done...but he still got the opportunity to show off for a minute! LOL!!

This is the centerpiece for a quilt I am making for hubby. Another gift for Christmas. He had the choice of this being a wall hanging or a quilt. Course he chose the quilt! :_PP Sooo, now to figure out some of the other McKenna Ryan pieces I want to do for the surrounding blocks! More on them later!

Goooooodddddnesssss!!! It's been forever since I last posted!!!! I didn't realize how bad i'd been! Soooo, i'm going to post two things now....and hopefully a copule more tomorrow!

This is a mini-quilt I made for my hubby for Christmas. Its a combo of a landscape quilt and cq....which is around the interior border. Then I added a black border around it to finish it off. I added cq stitching on the patches and also did some fabric manipulation to add dimension. Came out pretty well. A tad dark, but it's serving its purpose. It's rather a long standing "joke" between he and I as he is a hunter. He has only gotten one elk since i've known him....and was disappointed again this year. Sooo, I decided to give him one so he could say that he was successful last season! ?_)

All has NOT been quiet on the NWestern front....or whatever one i'm on! LOL!!! As previously blogged and kindly supported and chatted about by Mary Frances of Frequently Wrong But Never In Doubt...I finished the block for the New Orleans Australian fund raiser. Voting is taking place now, so I better get over there and pick someone to vote on!!

Anywhoo, I also made a handful of little holders for the bonds that we purchased for the grand-kids. I'm in a snowman phase this year and I added little touches to some of them to make them special to each personality....ie: a bee on "Busy Izzie's" and a ladybug on Seviahs, etc. They'll stand in nicely as ornaments on their little trees too! I have also completed five wall hangings, a christmas jacket for mother, the two cq blocks for the RMCQ banner....OH....and three felt tree skirts i'll post a sampling of them later. These will stand in for the heirloom cq tree skirts I will complete this coming year. Right now....i'm just glad the bulk of it is done and I can breath a bit! Packages are all mailed...a few stray cards to do and it's over for the year! Phew!!!
